Where Historic Santa Clara Is
The historic core of Santa Clara runs along Santa Clara Drive, the old Highway 91 route, in the valley of the Santa Clara River. Swiss families settled here in 1861 as part of the Cotton Mission, and the town plat laid out the original lots, orchards, and farms.
History and Events
The Jacob Hamblin Home, built in 1863 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is open to visitors. The Santa Clara Swiss Historical Museum is on Santa Clara Drive. Each year on the last weekend of September, Swiss Days celebrates the town's Swiss pioneer heritage with a parade along Santa Clara Drive from the Hamblin Home to City Hall, plus activities at Heritage Square.
Homes
Expect older homes on original town lots, some with mature trees and orchards, mixed with newer infill. Lots near the river may sit in or near mapped flood hazard areas.
Schools and Access
Washington County School District assigns schools by address, and boundaries change as schools open and close. Confirm the current elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school for a specific home with the district before you rely on it.
